Droop refers to the amount of vertical travel available to the suspension when the wheel is unloaded. It's the distance the chassis can lift until the wheel leaves the ground.
Droop is influenced by two parameters: ride height and the downstop (suspension travel). Any change in ride height requires re-adjusting the downstop to maintain consistent suspension behavior.
This setting is essential in categories like Touring MOD, Stock or FWD, allowing fine adjustment of the chassis to suit both track conditions and driving style.
Effects of Droop on Performance
Too much droop: instability during braking, excessive weight transfer, floating feel.
Too little droop: overly stiff chassis, loss of mechanical grip, poor handling on bumpy surfaces.
Adapting Droop to Track Conditions
- Low grip surface: Increase droop for better ground contact.
- High grip surface: Reduce droop to improve responsiveness.
- Bumpy track: Increase droop to let the suspension absorb irregularities.
Downstop (Suspension Travel)
The downstop defines the lower limit of suspension travel. It is adjusted via a stopper screw or shims under the suspension arms. It directly impacts stability, traction, and weight transfer management.
